Nick’s Story

The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) awarded Nick the "Texas Foster Youth of the Year" award in 2015.

BCFS Health and Human Services helped Nick land on his feet after spending six years in the foster care system. Today, Nick is in college with a 3.5 GPA with a bright future ahead of him.

"I don't really remember the exact day I went into foster care. All I can remember was that it was one Monday morning when I was supposed to go to school. My aunt and uncle called me a delinquent child and then proceeded to give up their rights for me.

I have been in care for about six years. This Christmas it will be exactly six years!

BCFS has been extremely helpful during this time of transition. Every time I need something or have questions I can just call or go over there. They have done a lot of things like helping me fill out FAFSA, getting my books for college, providing a fun time at an arcade place, just all kinds a little things that make the difference.

Honestly if it wasn't for BCFS I would be struggling a lot more then what I am now. So I just want to say thank you to BCFS and all of their community partners, supporters, and friends. Your donations make a huge difference and I am very appreciative."
